Coming from the guy who used to tell merchant processing salespeople to get out of my shop without a second glance, this might sound hypocritical. A closer look will unveil why my philosophy did a full 180.
I went from not wanting to hear a single word about merchant processing to absolutely loving the Cash Discount Program—because it actually made sense. It saved me over $3,000 a month, nearly $60,000 in the last year and a half before I sold my restaurant. The previous 8.5 years I shelled out over $300,000 in merchant credit card processing fees. That’s money I’ll never get back.
The words that tipped the scale for me were simple: “Eliminate merchant credit card processing fees.” Still, I had my doubts:
Would customers leave? I had just switched to a new POS system—would this be another nightmare Was it even legal? Or just another scam?
Here’s what I found:
Customers didn’t care. In fact, most were supportive.
The POS switch was easier—ten times smoother than my last changeover.
It’s legal in all 50 states. Six states have restrictions, but that doesn’t stop the program from working.
The only scam was the one I’d been paying into—years of unnecessary fees.
At Free Merchant Credit Card Fees, we’re not here to push a sale. We’re here to help business owners stop bleeding money on fees they should never have to pay. Plain and simple
4. Deceptive Pricing: Here’s the irony: some states have passed laws against deceptive pricing—and those laws are good, they protect consumers. But if you’ve ever looked at the back of a merchant processing statement, you know deception lives there. Layer upon layer of “additional surcharges” depending on the card type. Where is the protection for small businesses?
Small businesses get the short end of the stick always, No one is looking out for us
5. Who Really Pays for Perks?: We are convinced the “free” incentives & rewards given by the credit card issuers to incentivize card holders to use their card, are funded by the extra fees on the back of our monthly statements. Seriously there are hundreds of these fees for every type of card company out there. We’re footing the bill for customers’ perks. Does it say Sucker Somewhere on my Forehead.
6. The Fake “Discount”: Does this make any sense? That “discount” on your statement is actually what you are being charged. They are referred to as “discounts” so credit card processing companies and merchant services providers can act like they’re giving you a deal. When in fact it is the exact opposite of a discount. They are the same group the lead us to believe “it’s the cost of doing business”
28.99%- 39.99% interest + Late fees+ Annual Fees+ a whole list of fees that are charged on top of the processing fees isn’t enough for these banks? they get 3-4% of every transaction from every business in the whole World that accepts credit cards AND we are paying the perks. It’s no wonder Visa and Mastercard Stock just keeps going up.
8. We Pay Full Processing Fees for Free and Discount Perks: This is petty but that’s the point. When customers redeem perks, businesses still get hit with credit card processing fees as if they’d been paid in full total before giveaway or discount applied. Another slap in the face.
9. California’s Hypocrisy on Surcharges As usual, California law manages to be confusing and enforced in a hypocritical way. The rule says only restaurants can charge a surcharge—everyone else is supposed to use the cash discount model.
I switched processors more times than I can count, but the fees never stopped. Every month, same story: money out of my pocket. The Cash Discount Program was the first—and only—solution that actually fixed the problem. It eliminated my processing fees, kept me fully compliant with state laws, and did it all without disrupting my business or Upsetting my customers.
We provide the right equipment for any business setup, from the latest ultra-modern POS systems to reliable refurbished models. With access to the top POS companies, we match your system to your sales volume and operational needs. Best of all? In many cases, we can get you running with no upfront cost.
Every merchant processor swears they’re “the best.” But in reality, I only care about two things:
Are my deposits hitting my account on time? Next-day funding (including Friday through Sunday deposits on Monday morning) is standard. Some companies even offer same-day deposits. I’m fine with either—what matters is consistency.
What fees am I paying? We already covered how outrageous those are. The Cash Discount Program is the best practice for cutting them out completely.
Where the real difference shows is in customer service during a crisis. Picture this: it’s a Friday night of a holiday weekend, the system goes down, and your business is packed. Do you get routed to a call center overseas that can’t solve the problem until Tuesday? Or do you have a local rep who can immediately contact their 24-hour emergency team and get you back online the same night? That’s the kind of support that matters.

How the Cash Discount Program Works
Free Merchant Credit Card Fees is here to help businesses save money. Our Complete Cash Discount Program is a comprehensive system that puts money back in your pocket immediately.
Just like sales tax: you don’t pay your customers’ tax — you simply collect it for the state. Credit card fees can work the same way. Banks have long told us these fees are just cost of doing business.
It’s the customer’s choice: When customers pay with credit, they’re choosing convenience and rewards — it’s fair they help cover the cost.
The DMV does Charge a Surcharge: despite the law that say Only Restaurants charge a surcharge, California’s Department of Motor Vehicles run a separate Transaction to cover the Fees, and they don’t accept Cash. That’s not Democracy, that’s hypocrisy.
Banks already profit big: they earn 30% on their money through interest, plus late fees and annual fees, yet still charge merchants around 4% just to process payments.
Keeps pricing honest: If you roll fees into your prices, cash buyers overpay. A cash discount program keeps costs transparent — cash customers pay less.
Spend that money that you see fit, We put ours into retirement, which consists of real estate, retirement funds, and other ways to try to maximize gains
This is where it gets real. A surcharge is when you add a fee after the fact — like “2.5% added to all credit card purchases.” That’s heavily regulated, and not allowed everywhere.
A cash discount is something else. You offer a lower price for customers who pay with cash or debit. It’s transparent, it’s upfront, and it’s been used by gas stations and other businesses for decades.
What we do is set you up with a compliant cash discount system — not a backdoor surcharge. We follow the rules, and we make sure your signage, receipts, and setup are dialed in.
Look — this isn’t about squeezing more out of customers. It’s about survival.
Margins are tighter than ever. Processing fees can eat away at your revenue every single month. We get it — we’ve been there. This isn’t about pushing gimmicks. It’s about helping you stay in business and keep more of what you earn.
And guess what? Most customers understand. When they see that they can pay cash and save, or they see the card fee clearly marked — they get it. They’ve seen it before.
You’re not tricking anyone. You’re just finally getting some breathing room.
We’ve built our entire system around helping merchants like you do this the right way. That means:
“Let us help you understand your options. No pressure, no fast talk — just someone who gets what you’re going through and knows how to help.”
Stop paying fees now: Here’s the solution.
